I got clamped!

Ok, ok, you got me...

Tyre boss forgets to put new tax disc on his car and gets fined. At that I can pretty much hold my hands up and say, fine, fair cop! However, thats only part of the process it now appears. After I have recieved my 60 pound fine from the Police foot patrol my details are passed to NSL, who based on their website have been put in place to, and I quote;

“Our priority is to make the city centre a safe place for all...."

NSL then spend the rest of the following day tracking my car down to apply one of yellow clamps to my drivers side boot. Another 160 quid and a letter to say if I dont contact them within 24 hours they will tow me away. Ok, I know it still isnt showing the disc but the tax is paid for and on its way, according to the DVLA.

Anyway, so I call them up as instructed and there is no answer at 9, 1 hour later and 35 calls on still no answer. So I call their national number and they tell me they can take my cash and although I will go onto the 'de-clamp' list I should still keep an eye on my car as they may still lift it - how and why? Well basically because they havent got very good systems of communication!?! But............if I do get lifted then I can apply for a refund of the further impounding fee...

Come on guys, surely with all this cash in fines kicking about you can afford to communicate with each other better? Or would that defeat the object of confusion and flood of domino effect fines?

My fault I guess, BUT, this is not a public service, and it is certainly not keeping me or anyone around me safe or safer, at least thats how it looks from here?
